How to react when carpet is damaged with water??

No one has control over natural water-related disasters. But one can take all the anticipatory measures to minimize and avoid consequence on your carpet. As soon as you observe a dampness on a carpet, you must call a water damage service corporation. They will immediately come out for an inspection, and will most likely recommend you to remove bits and pieces or any substances from the carpet or anything that is stored under your bed and move them to a dry and secure place. They will perhaps recommend to remove any light pieces of furniture.

They will take out eminence water, and then embark on the ventilation and drying processes. Ventilating the locality with fans and dehumidifiers particularly-designed to take care of areas exposed to water. The fans accelerate the drying process and curtail the drying time, while the dehumidifiers work to help dry the microenvironment. Do not wait just call immediately as time is essential in the case of carpet water damage, because mold, fungus and bacteria can begin to grow after twelve hours.

What you should do when carpet is damaged with water:
  • Straight away end the water flow causing the harm.
  • Take out any books, magazines or other personal belongings and shift to a dry area.
  • Get rid of any rugs, throw pillows and light furniture.
  • Get in touch with a water damage service corporation.
  • Have a word with your insurance company as it may wrap the damage.

Things you should avoid doing when carpet is damaged with water:

If your carpet, tile or wooden floor is damaged with water please do not:
  • Avoid using any electrical appliances such as televisions, toaster ovens or hair dryers.
  • Eliminate walking on the carpet as much as possible, as bacteria from the base of your shoes can cooperate with the water and generate a microenvironment for bacteria to grow.

Why you should clean your carpets!

Your carpet is a big investment, and the main reason you want your carpet cleaned is because you see and feel the dirt on it. We want our carpet to last as many years as possible, but there is only one way to achieve that, and that is to have your carpets cleaned professionally on a regular basis. What you don’t see is what’s hurting you and damaging your carpet!

  • Clean carpet creates a sanitary environment to live in.

What’s your stain?? – III (Miscellaneous carpet stains)

Carpet cleaning & stain removal could be an extremely tiresome & tedious task. Below are a few quick home remedies that you could use to get rid of those stubborn nasty stains.

Grease
Remove the surplus grease from the carpets by blotting up liquids with a clean absorbent towel. Apply a spot cleaner or a dry cleaning solvent on the affected area (according to the product directions). Take note to test the same in an inconspicuous place to make sure the carpet color is not removed. Some spot cleaners dry to a powder. If this type of spot remover is used, vacuum the area before continuing. Apply carpet shampoo (dilute 1 part liquid carpet shampoo to 4 parts water) with a towel or brush. Let the area dry thoroughly and then vacuum the same.

Charcoal
To get rid of a charcoal stain, mix 1 tbsp of liquid dishwashing detergent & 2 cups of warm water. With the help of a clean white cloth, dab the stained area with the detergent solution. Blot until the solvent is completely absorbed. Repeat the above 2 steps until the stain disappears. Sponge the area with cold water & blot dry. Vacuum the area as much as possible.

Candle Wax
Spread a terry cloth towel or brown paper over the affected area of the carpet and iron (use the tip of the iron) with the setting on ‘Warm’. The wax will be absorbed into the paper/towel. Next, remove any traces with alcohol or dry cleaning solvent.

Oil Based Paint
After the excess paint has been removed, carefully apply turpentine or paint thinner to the affected area. Blot repeatedly. Shampoo, let dry and vacuum.

Wine
Mix 1 tsp of a mild detergent (containing no alkali or bleaches) with 1 cup of lukewarm water.  Blot/dab the stained area with the mixture. Mix 1/3 cup of white vinegar with 2/3 cup of water. Blot the affected area. Repeat the 1st step. Sponge the area with clean water. Blot again.
