Why is it important to clean office upholstery?

Why is it important to clean office upholstery?

Regardless of the size of your office and the hustle and bustle that happens in it, there are a few things that should not be ignored - one of them is the office upholstery. Having your office furniture cleaned regularly is particularly important as it affects your employees, customers/clients, and overall company reputation.

Below are a few reasons why office upholstery should be cleaned on a regular basis:

To ensure comfort: Quite often, we notice the padding and foam on office seats/ chairs are damaged. These kinds of damages need to be checked timely and fixed promptly before your employees start experiencing back and other muscle problems. Also, damaged upholstery does not create a good impression on visitors.

For health safety: A lot of people suffer from dust allergies which could lead to breathing or skin problems. Upholstery that has been eating dust for a long time could give rise to such allergies resulting in employees falling sick. While some cases may not be as severe, there are a few that could lead to a runny nose, constant sneezing, cough, watery eyes, and congestion. Hence, regular dusting and cleaning of upholstery are crucial to ensure the environment is healthy.

Increases productivity: You'll be surprised to know how office upholstery can enhance productivity. When office upholstery is clean and maintained, employees actually feel comfortable, sit at ease and work more efficiently. This helps in getting more work done in a shorter duration, thus raising overall work productivity.

It adds to the overall look of the office: When your office upholstery is cleaned regularly, it adds to the overall appeal of your office. It not only creates a positive impact on the employees but also makes a good impression on visitors. An office that ensures it's furniture and upholstery is clean and well maintained portrays the level of professionalism in the office.

Saving on replacement expenses: Ensuring that your upholstery is cleaned periodically, will eliminate the need for high-cost upholstery replacement in the long run. It is wiser to spend on regular cleaning and maintenance than to spend huge sums in buying new office upholstery.

Long-term usage: With the help of efficient cleaning methods or the services of a professional cleaning company, your office upholstery will be in good condition and can be used for a long time. Cleaning on a regular basis will extend the lifespan of your upholstery furniture.

If upholstery cleaning doesn't fit into your office schedule, give us a call on 1800213006. Using professional upholstery cleaning systems, our technicians at Classique ChemDry will clean and revive your office upholstery.

Ways to prevent mould on carpet

Carpet Cleaning

Anybody who experiences even a small amount of water into their house either through floods or broken pipes should be concerned about mould. And, along with walls and wooden furniture, carpets are also prone to mould. It takes very little water for mould to grow and do a lot of harm. Exposure to mould can cause health problems for some people. Mould is always there in the air, it only needs a little moisture and a dark space to grow quickly. Here are some ways to prevent mould from spreading when you know water is present.

1. Get rid of water as quickly as possible

Since mould thrives on water, removing it will be the easiest way to prevent it from growing at all. A dry/wet vacuum cleaner can be used for this purpose which can be rented out from any carpet cleaning company.

2. Using a dehumidifier to dry the air

The ideal humidity on a comfortable day should be between 30-60%. Mould reproduces excessively in humid conditions. If you’re living in a humid area, then using a dehumidifier to keep the humidity below 60% is a good way to prevent mould.

3. Opt for anti-microbial carpet padding

If you have plans of buying a new carpet, choosing one with rubber-slab carpet padding can be a great option as they are less prone to developing mould and bacteria.

4. Don’t feed the mould

Dirt and dust are mould food which needs to be cleared off regularly in order to prevent mould growth. Vacuum the carpet with a good-quality vacuum periodically. And whenever the carpet does need cleaning, using a dry vacuum cleaner will minimise the amount of moisture the carpet has to absorb.

If you suspect that your home harbours mould, we at Classique Chemdry, provide carpet cleaning, water damage restoration services to Bungendore, Crookwell, Goulburn, Yass, Gunning, Marulan, Collector and surrounding areas of NSW. Call 1800 213 006 for a free quote.

7 Simple steps to help you deal with a wet carpet after water damage

carpet cleaning

Have you had a flooding or a broken pipe in your home? What do you do if you find your carpet has been exposed to or has been under water for a long time?

Don’t worry, most carpets can be saved if addressed as quickly as possible.
And a quick response is vital not just to save your carpet, but for the health of the home occupants too. Water remaining in your carpet becomes a breeding ground for mould in as little as 48 hours. Exposure to airborne mould may trigger symptoms in people with hay fever, asthma, and allergies.

So what are the things you need to do immediately?

1. Turn the water off at the source and be sure to turn off the electricity.
Have a good knowledge of where your main water valve is located and how to turn it off. This would save time, rather than finding out where the leak is.
Don’t step on any wet carpets till you have turned off the power. Water and electricity is a deadly combination.

2.  Identify the source of the damage and address it separately.
Find out how the water damage has happened, fix or replace any leaky or broken pipes. Takes steps to ensure that this kind of accident won't happen again.
It is important to identify the source so you can decide on how to take care of your carpet. If it is clean water, then drying your carpets will be easier. However, if its water from your washing machine or sewer pipes, you’ll have to get a professional cleaning company to disinfect the carpet.

3. Remove water as quickly as possible.
If the water is clean and non-contaminated, try to remove as much water as possible off the carpet and out of your home. However, if it is contaminated, don’t risk touching it. Let the experts and their special equipment handle it.
Using a wet/dry vacuum is one of the most effective tools and it can be easily rented.

4. Remove the carpet any other water-logged furnishings if possible.
You will definitely need help to move a wet carpet as it will be much heavier than usual. But it will dry better if it is out in open air.
Check carefully for water damage to any furniture and your flooring. You may need to avail the services of a water remediation company.

5. Ventilate the area.
Vacuuming the carpet and extracting water from it should help reduce it from soaking wet to damp. But you have to keep drying it, as mould and mildew are just waiting to grow there.
Keep all windows and doors open and fans running as this will ensure fresh air circulates. You can limit mould and mildew growth by using a dehumidifier.

6. Steam clean the carpet and check the carpet padding.
To properly sanitize and deodorize the carpet, you must use an effective steam cleaner. You may need to hire professionals to ensure the cleaning process is completed quickly and efficiently.
Thoroughly check the carpet pad under your carpet. If it is soaked through and you cannot remove the moisture through extracting, vacuuming, and dehumidifying, then it must be replaced. Usually, water damaged carpet padding cannot be saved and it will be less expensive than having to re-carpet your home.

7. Clean up and sanitize the affected areas.
Anything touched by the water, including the walls, hard-surface floors should be cleaned thoroughly and sanitized. Most household surfaces can be cleaned with soap and water. Sanitize and disinfect everything with a chlorine bleach solution. Remember to always wear rubber gloves.

If you are in need of a carpet cleaning after water damage, avail of our professional cleaning services. Your carpet will be clean and dry within hours as we use 80% less water than typical steam cleaners. We provide services in Goulburn and all surrounding suburbs.

Leather Care Tips

Leather sofa

Leather is a popular choice in furniture that adds style and character to any room in a home. It is one of the more durable and low-maintenance surfaces for home furnishings. Keeping your leather upholstery clean and in top condition is relatively simple if you follow the proper care. However, different types of leather upholstery have different cleaning requirements.

How leather is processed determines which of the three main categories it falls under:

Aniline Leather
This is the most natural-looking leather but is highly priced. As it is not coated with any additional polymers or pigments it retains all the unique markings and characteristics.

Semi-Aniline Leather
It is just a little bit tougher than aniline leather as its surface has been treated with a light coat that contains some pigment, which makes it more soil and stain-resistant.

Protected or Pigmented Leather
This is the most durable type of leather and has a polymer surface coating containing pigments which adds more resistance to scuffing or fading.

What to protect your leather from?

Unlike most fabrics, leather is extremely difficult to restore once it is damaged and it is sensitive to many things. Leather furniture is commonly vulnerable to:
Marks, Scuffs, and Scratches,
Broken Stitching, Cracks, Tears and Rips,
Fading and Discoloration

What are the major causes for Fading and Discoloration?

Oils & Grease
Over a long time, body oils and perspiration create a chemical reaction changing the pH level and affect the protective finishes of your leather.

Atmospheric Soils
Direct sunlight / UV rays, humidity, and dust deposits draw moisture out of your leather’s fibers and dislocate vital natural oils that cannot be replenished. Airborne pollutants like cooking oils and atmospheric pollution also cause damage.

Common Soils
Stains caused by dirt brought into the home by people and pets may leave a permanent tint on your leather. Plants can also easily leave bright green stains due to the chlorophyll in them that acts like a dye on leather.

Dyes, Inks, and Paints
Stains from paint, dyes, and inks are considered inorganic stains are tougher to remove. The faster you act, the better. Wet stains are easier to remove, so it’s important to act as quickly as possible before they dry.

Regular care is the best defense against wear and tear to extend the life of your furniture

- Vacuum furniture before using cleaning products
- Blot spills quickly
- Keep pets off of furniture
- Take care to prevent contact with sharp objects
- Protect your furniture from direct sunlight
- Care for cushions by turning them around and fluffing them
- Dust weekly with a dry microfiber cloth
- Check the manufacturer's labels for care instructions

Professional cleaning
Besides your regular cleaning, it is recommended to have furniture cleaned professionally between 2 and 4 times a year, depending on its age and the amount of wear it gets.
In addition to avoiding long-term damage to the upholstery, cleanings also help to remove potential allergens which are obvious health hazards for people who suffer from allergies.

Call Classique Chem-Dry today on 1800 213 006 / 0458 213 408 or schedule an appointment for professional upholstery cleaning to maintain the health and beauty of your leather furniture.

Are you a pet lover? 4 cleaning tips you need to know

Dog and Cat Classique Chem-Dry

Whether you're a dog or a cat lover, you know for sure with all the endless love and happiness they bring, comes endless cleaning. Pet urine, poop and fur cleaning can get difficult at times, leaving you overwhelmed. Worry no more, as we provide some tips that will make your cleaning easier and your home healthier.

1) Regular brushing
When you have a furry friend at home, you're bound to find fur all over the place. In order to reduce the cleaning work, you should brush your pet frequently. By doing this you will get rid of the loose fur which should go straight to your bin instead of falling on your rugs and carpets.

2) Clean stains ASAP
There are times when your pet messes your rug, carpet, or bed. It is important to act quickly and get rid of the waste before the stains settle and become permanent. Always blot the stain with a blotting material instead of rubbing/scrubbing it. Hydrogen Peroxide, Vinegar, and Baking soda are good solutions to clean up well.

3) Avoid outside dirt from entering indoors
There is nothing more fun for your pet than running on an open ground, chasing after insects, or rolling in the mud. While all this may seem fun to your pet, it means you’ll have some cleaning to do. You are going to have to deal with paw prints and mud, dirt and allergens after all the playing. In order to avoid all the mess, it's best to wipe your pet thoroughly before it steps into the house.

4) Stock up your cleaning materials
At any time of the day, your pet can dirty your place making it unpleasant. It is always good to be equipped and ready with cleaning items to tackle such cleaning situations on time.

5) Groom your pet
Be proactive when it comes to taking your pet out for a grooming session. This will help in keeping your pet healthy and clean and your house too!

Pet Urine Odor Removal

People often love their home pets dearly…but not so much the odors they may leave behind in your house. Animal lovers also know that the smell of cat or dog urine is only a part of the problem. The other part of the problem is that the pet tends to relieve itself in the same place again.

By treating fresh urine promptly, removing old odors and preventing bathroom accidents in the first place, you can eliminate pet odors and make your home smell fresh again.

Once you find a fresh urine stain, blot the spot with a clean towel immediately. This will soak up as much urine as possible, reducing the possibility of the pee soaking into your rug or upholstery. Use a bowl of warm water and a few drops of mild soap to dilute the damp spot. Use a clean towel to wipe the wet spot with the soapy water, blotting with a dry towel. You may have to do this a few times until no traces of the original stain remain.

Launder or replace any items like sheets or covers that retain smell.

Home remedies

Vinegar is a very effective odor neutralizer. Put white vinegar in a spray bottle and use it to saturate the offending area. Leave it in place for a few hours, until it dries. As the vinegar smell fades, so will the odor of urine.

Using corn starch or baking soda can also neutralize strong odors and is harmless to you and your pet. Sprinkle it over the smelly area, and work it in well with a broom or a scrub brush so that it gets to the odor’s source. Let it sit for about 24 hours. The corn starch or baking soda will come up, bringing the urine odor along with it. Then vacuum the area thoroughly to remove the residue.

Chlorine bleach effectively removes pet urine odors from concrete surfaces like patios or in garages. Bleach, however, has to be used with care as it can damage your clothing, carpets, and furniture; neither you nor your pet should breathe the fumes. Put some bleach in a spray bottle and apply it full-strength to the affected area. Leave it for an hour or two, then rinse well.

Over the counter products

You can also use enzyme-based products available at pet stores that break down the bacteria and neutralizes the odor. These products use the power of enzymes to do the work and are non-toxic for pets. These enzymes are proteins that help to get rid of natural chemical reactions at a molecular level. The enzymes in pet carpet care products attach themselves to the molecules that make up the urine and bacteria that feed on it. You may need to treat the area with a product more than once.
If urine odors persist, it might be useful to call in specially trained professionals such as Classique Chem-Dry with processes, products, and machinery that are designed to tackle these tough stains and odors. A good option for cleaning fresh pet urine stains is Chem-Dry’s Pet Odor Remover. It’s specially formulated to lift and neutralize fresh, minor pet urine odors in carpets.

Classique Chem-Dry Pet Urine Removal Treatment is specially designed to eliminate hard to remove pet urine odors. Our proprietary P.U.R.T. process is unparalleled in the industry. Our treatment is formulated to break down molecules found deep in your carpet which are a source of the odors.

How to protect your home from water damage

Water leakage

You might never know when a flood could strike your home. It is important to prepare your home against a flood. You do not want your furniture, appliance or household items to be soaked by water.

The first precaution you can take is making sure that the electrical circuitry and equipment at your home is raised or kept at above the level of the expected water.

If there has been damage to the roof of your home, repair it. This is done to avoid moisture and protect the interior of your home.

Take out any waste material which is present on the roof drain pipe. This will ensure that the water drains out properly.

When you’re travelling far, make sure to switch off the water supply and check all the pipes in case of any leaks.

Inspect the plants and trees. Make sure that they don’t obstruct the sprinkler system or septic tank.

Pouring grease inside the sink would cause the sink to clog. Freeze the grate and then toss it out into the trash can.

If there’s a leak which you don’t know about, it will reflect on your water bill. Keep a check on your monthly water bills.

Install a water detection device near a water heater; it would sound an alarm in case of any moisture water damage.

4 things you can do to prevent water damage

Water damage is one of the most common causes of damage to our home and property. It can be very cumbersome to homeowners financially, as the cost of repairing them can be very expensive. Water damage doesn’t only occur during the rains, but can also happen on a bright sunny day, whether it’s a leaking toilet, tap, water heater or washing machine. However, you can prevent these problems by referring to the steps below.

Inspect your homes
Before the rainy season begins, make sure you check your roof - there could be a possibility of leakage. And if the roof has minor problems like broken tiles or other damages, make sure you get it fixed. Even a minor problem can lead to bigger issues. Your roofs are not the only places that should be checked; even your doors and windows must be checked. If you notice water entering through your doors and windows, get them checked or repaired immediately.

Check your plumbing and appliancesWeak plumbing can even lead to your homes getting flooded, so check them at least once in 3 months. If there are any weak rusted spots in the pipes, make sure you change them. Your appliances can also act as water damage agents – like your washing machines, dishwashers or water heaters. Check for any leakage from your appliances and repair it before it becomes a bigger problem.

Install Water Shutoff ValvesInstall water shutoff valves on water lines under your sinks, toilets and other water lines as a home security system, so that you can shut off the valves if there is any leakage.

Ensure your homes are VentilatedAlways make sure your homes are well-ventilated, or water problems may occur - in the form of condensation. Condensation mostly occurs during the cold weather. Always make sure your room is well ventilated, even if it’s just a little. This helps reduce the Condensation in the room. Condensation can cause the development of mould on your doors and windows. The ventilation will help prevent this.

Why you need to clean your home - 3 Top Reasons

Keeping a house clean can be quite tasking with pets and kids around. For those of you who do not like cleaning here are some of the top five reason why you should.

1) Easily find your things - Finding your phone in a clutter could give you a headache. Your time gets wasted in searching an item in an unorganised room. You could reach late to work and you will find yourself accomplish very little because of a clutter. When your home is clean and organised, you’ll get you work done quicker and you will save a lot of time.

2) Calling your friends over- Don’t embarrass yourself by calling a friend to a home filled with clutter. Your reputation is on the line. If that’s the case you may stop having people over altogether. Don’t let your dirty home be the problem t. By keeping your home clean and orderly, you’ll have more motivation to invite people to dinner and enjoy their company.

3) Get better sleep: There’s nothing more relaxing than jumping in a bed with clean sheets and saying good night to an orderly house. You’ll rest at ease when you’re not waking up to chaos. Let your mind rest peacefully in a clean home.

4) Makes you creative: Clean space allows the mind to relax and be more creative. When you’re surrounded by uncleanliness or a disorganised mess, your mind focuses more on the chaos and less on letting your creative juices flow. Spots and stains

Isn’t a stain and a spot the same thing?

Nope, it isn't the same thing. Stains and spots are as different as a dots and dash or cheetah and a zebra... I could go on with the examples but there is a big difference in stains and spots especially in the carpet cleaning business.

Let's start be defining the two
Spots: These are things spilled onto the carpet but do not chemically bond to the fibers. Examples would be dirt from heavy traffic areas, food, etc…

Stains: This, on the other hand, is spills that can damage or change the carpet in one way or another. Things like motor oil or the like would fall under this category

Leaving the definition aside main difference between the two is that spots are organic while stains are not. Also, you can always see a spot, but sometimes you can have a stain and not even see it. If you have spilled something like transparent like oil, dust will cling to it, and even when you vacuum, the dust on the stain will remain. This issue is something that gets carpet cleaners in a soup sometimes. We are called out to clean a carpet, but the stain only reveals itself after the cleaning. Naturally, the carpet owner blames the carpet cleaner.

So now how would the carpet owner tell the difference between a stain and a spot? A good way to determine if it's a spot or a stain is to check if the “spot” changed the tint or hue of the rug. If it does, it is actually a stain, but if the color is different than the rug–like red wine on a beige carpet–then it is most likely a spot.
We at Chemdry take care of all the spots and stains on your carpets. Give us a call at 1800 213 006 or visit our website www.classiquechemdry.com.au for more information on our services.

Water damage restoration service

When your house gets flooded due to a number of reasons such as leaking pipes, broken pump etc, and you have carpeting in that area, it's important to extract the water from the carpet. Now one may ask what's the problem with cleaning the carpet? Isn't it the same material as towels or any other fabric? The problem with carpeting is that it can become soggy, and begin to attract allergen materials.
Let's face it, nobody likes the smell of damp carpeting in their home and in many cases it can be quite hazardous to people’s health. Flood waters can contain bacteria or numerous other disease carrying contaminants. If the water is not extracted properly it can lead to long-term health issues for people living in the property for an extended period of time.  This can create a hazardous environment for many people.

What are the kinds of water damage?

Each type of water damage has to be classified in order to understand the water damage effectively.
  • Dirty water: In the case of dirty water the carpet would need to be completely removed, because of the contaminants (can be caused by sewage) in the water and it being biologically hazardous to a person’s health.
  • Grey water: This is chemically contaminated water that can come from chlorinated water being emptied out or washing machine overflowing. In many cases, if proper extracting chemicals are used the carpet can be safe for the removal.
  • Clean water: This is if a water pipe breaks and soaks the floor which is the least harmful in regards to removal.

How to start the water extraction process?

Water extraction is one of the most important things to do in case of water damage. With the use of specialized vacuums and dehumidifiers in order to remove water from the area, you can ensure thorough removal of all the moisture parts from the carpeted areas. After this is done then the area will be sprayed down with decontaminants in order to prevent the spread of mold in the carpeted areas.

Chemdry can handle all of these problems. With our trained staff we can help mitigate any type of flood damage that may have occurred at home. One of the primary aspects of floodwater extraction is having a specially trained staff, and at Chemdry you have experts, professionals, and support readily available.

How to remove red wine stains from your carpet

From a quiet-night-in bottle to a Thursdays night with friends, red wine is drunk on many occasions. A small accident could have your carpet stained by this drink.

Here are some tips to get rid of the stain :

Dish Soap : Use some dish soap (half a cup )along with hydrogen peroxide. Effective for for light fabric. Hydrogen peroxide is a mild bleaching agent. Let the solution seep into the carpet and then gently dab the stain. If you’re worried that your carpet color would be affect by this method. Use a small potion of the solution on your carpet. If you’re carpet lighten then avoid using this method.

Club Soda : Rub in some club soda to the stain. After the stain is blotted up , use some dish soap along with some warm water to clean the stain. Repeat this process until the stain is removed. If it’s a tough stain use the hydrogen peroxide to the some amount of hydrogen peroxide to the mix. Make sure to test it out first before on small portion, if you decide to use hydrogen peroxide.
